The Department of Psychology at Texas State University strives to celebrate the various cultures that make up the world, believing that cultural celebrations foster a sense of belonging and draw awareness to the histories and shared values of different cultures. Some of these notable cultural celebrations include Black History Month (February), Women’s History Month (March), Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (May), LGBTQ+ Pride Month (June), Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15), and Native American Heritage Month (November).
Moreover, the faculty in this department recognize the importance of investigating psychological constructs relevant to cultural identities. Please see our Research on Culture page for a sample of our recent journal article publications with research that explores gender and sexual minorities, research with Hispanic individuals, research examining racial identity, and research conducted with people in other countries.
